Sustainable Energy Action Plans

The role of Local Government in achieving significant energy savings and contributing towards reaching 2020 and 2030 emissions targets has legislative status. These targets will be met at least in part by local action, outlined for example, in the forthcoming Kilkenny Co. Co. and Carlow Co.Co. Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP). Data4Action has established a local energy hub (www.energyhub.ie) to monitor data at a local level. Energy data has been provided via the CSO and SEAI at national level.

Minister Coveney welcomes the publication of his Department's Statement of Strategy 2016 - 2019

Mr. Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, welcomed the publication of his Department's Statement of Strategy 2016 - 2019. The Minister stated that the document would serve as a workplan for the coming years to enable his Department to continue to deliver services in line with relevant Programme for a Partnership Government commitments.

A worker dies every 15 seconds.


According to the International Labour Organization, every 15 seconds - a worker dies from a work-related accident or disease.   Every day, 6,300 people die as a result of occupational accidents or work-related diseases – more than 2.3 million deaths per year.

Public Sector can grow on €154 million energy savings made in 2015

Almost 350 public bodies and government departments today attended the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) first public sector conference at UCD in an effort to advance energy efficiency. Working towards the Government’s target of 33% energy saving by 2020, attendees learned about best practice in energy efficiency; from changes in transportation, behavioural change in organisations, building and facility upgrades, retrofits and structured energy management.

Minister announces public consultation on National Biodiversity Action Plan 2017-2021

The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has announced that her Department is seeking the views of the public on the draft National Biodiversity Action Plan for conserving and restoring Ireland’s biodiversity and ecosystems.
