Dublin-based data transfer specialists Wizuda has signed a new contract with An Garda Síochána to upgrade and transform its digital systems.

The Wizuda data transfer software will empower An Garda Síochána to securely manage and transfer data using the latest encryption and data protection technologies.

Making the announcement, Managing Director of Wizuda Danielle Cussen said:

“An Garda Siochána provides a vital service to thousands of people across the country,” said Danielle Cussen, Managing Director of Wizuda. “The Gardaí send and receive large quantities of very important and often highly sensitive data every day. Securing and managing the flow of data from a GDPR compliance and security perspective is a high priority of theirs and we are delighted that the Wizuda software will play a key role in their digital transformation journey.”

Since the introduction of GDPR 18 months ago, Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner has received over 7,000 complaints. To put this into context, just 1,000 complaints were received in 2014. Under GDPR, the Data Protection Commissioner has the power to fine companies up to 4 per cent of their global turnover of the previous year or €20 million, whichever is greater, for violating the law.

Commercial Director of Wizuda Mike Ross said Wizuda has seen a surge in demand from other public sector bodies looking to upgrade their data transfer systems.

“The size of the digital transformation market has exploded in recent years– driven largely by organisational needs to serve changing customer preferences, security and enhance operational efficiency. Many public sector organisations need to transfer highly sensitive data to external parties on a regular basis. It’s a core operational business process and therefore it is inevitable that public sector bodies are now tackling the challenge of creating a smarter system, driven by digital.”
